It is a county jail, not a state prison, and it receives adults arrested by sheriff deputies, city police, Oregon State Police, and other local agencies in Deschutes County. Deschutes County Adult Jail Mail
Mail for someone held at Deschutes County Adult Jail must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service. The sheriff's mail rules require the inmate's complete name, the jail name, and the Highway 20 address. Hand delivery, courier delivery, and postage-due mail are not accepted. Money can support commissary items such as hygiene products, writing supplies, snacks, and fees. Mailed deposits may include cashier's checks, U.S. Postal money orders, and government checks, but the sheriff warns that cash by mail is not recommended. Personal, payroll, business, and two-party checks are not accepted by mail.
Deschutes County Adult Jail Booking
A person arrested in Deschutes County may be taken to Deschutes County Adult Jail if the officer lodges the person instead of issuing a citation and release. Booking creates the jail custody record. It can include identity, a booking or arrest number, property inventory, charges, holds, court dates, bond or security fields, and custody status. Classification means jail staff decide where a person is housed, but the official public pages do not publish classification criteria or a unit map.
The sheriff's posting bail page uses the term security. Any adult age 18 or older, except another inmate, may post security at the jail. The sheriff says the amount is normally 10 percent of the security amount, but some traffic violations may require the full amount, and the amount can change due to charges or court action. Regular business-hours payments go to the main lobby. After-hours, weekend, and holiday payments go to the Inmate Services door.
Accepted security payments are narrow. The jail accepts cash, cashier's checks, and U.S. Postal money orders. It does not accept personal checks, two-party checks, travelers checks, payroll checks, business checks, credit cards, debit cards, property, or other negotiable instruments for security. A booked inmate may use cash in possession at arrest or money already in the inmate account, but a refund from an account-funded security payment goes back to the inmate. That detail is important when a family member deposits money only to help with release.
In-custody arraignments connect the jail record to the court case. DCSO states that in-custody defendants appear by video court from the jail, and the public may view those proceedings at the Deschutes County Circuit Court courthouse in Bend. Felony in-custody arraignment with a case number is listed at 1:30 p.m.; in-custody misdemeanor or felony matters without a case number are listed at 2:45 p.m. The jail can confirm an in-custody arraignment date, while the court handles out-of-custody arraignment questions.

The DCSO public-records page warns that ongoing investigations, medical information, juvenile records, and pre-conviction mugshots may be exempt or redacted.
The difference between a jail booking and a court result matters. A roster charge can show why a person was booked or held, but it is not the same as a conviction. The prosecutor may file a different charge, amend a charge, dismiss a charge, or proceed by complaint, information, or indictment after the first jail entry. For that reason, use the jail roster for custody and use court records for the formal case path after arrest.
